Hunting Camp at the Paton Farm in Central Otago

Seals sunning themselves in the afternoon

We stopped on our way home to see the penguins at Bushy Beach.  We lucked out and saw a few from a distance.  We were upset at the Asian tourists who were chasing them across the beach and getting close to their nests.

Husband was invited to speak at the annual Hunting Camp held at the Paton's farm.  Paul Paton leads the boys on various hunts and I decided to volunteer as a cook with my friend Naomi Gibson.  We had a great time experimenting with rabbit, goose, venison and we lucked out this year that they didn't shoot a goat.

The kids enjoy the simple life at Allison Paton's farm.  She has games, books and baking to keep them happy when they aren't outside finding dead things, or trying to kill live things.  They found a dead rabbit (likely shot the night before by the teens at the camp).  Some highlights were rabbit shooting for LSF, plucking geese for all the kiddos, LN helping with cooking and baking, and we even got to go for a horse ride with Traci Paton.
